New Innovations in Emergency Medicine Competition

Tuesday, April 14th, 2-3pm
Scottsdale, AZ

This new competition allows residents and faculty at current emergency medicine residencies to feature innovations they have created and use at their current residency site. This may include: simulation, EM education, journal club, applicant evaluation, medical student education, etc.

  • DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: February 14
  • DEADLINE FOR POWERPOINT: March 14
  • Attending physicians are eligible
  • Top 3 resident posters are awarded $500, $250, and $125 respectively. All winners receive 2 tickets to the FOEM Legacy Gala. All attending physicians qualify for scholarly activity for participation.

Case Study Poster Competition 

Tuesday, April 14th, 1-2pm
Scottsdale, AZ

This annual competition takes place during the ACOEP Spring Seminar and is open to anyone that has an interesting or unique case to present as a poster summarizing their findings. Judges for the Case Study Poster Competition include the 2020 Spring Seminar Keynotes: Arlene Chung, MD, Chris Hicks, MD, and Scott Weingart, MD!

  • DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: February 14

Research Study Poster Competition

This annual competition takes place during the ACOEP Scientific Assembly and is open to anyone that has completed a research project and would like to present it as a poster summarizing their findings.

• Top 3 student/resident posters are awarded $500, $250, and $125 respectively. All winners receive

Clinical Pathological Case Competition (CPC)

Las Vegas, NV

This exciting annual competition pits residents against faculty in diagnosing a difficult case. It takes place during the ACOEP Scientific Assembly. Residents submit the case without final diagnosis, and the faculty member is given one month to develop a diagnosis. Both residents and faculty submit PowerPoint presentations. Each program must have a resident and faculty member in order to participate.

• DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: August 15
• DEADLINE FOR POWERPOINT: September 30
• Fee: $150 per program, per case submitted
• Top 3 student/resident presentations are awarded $500, $250, and $125 respectively. All resident
winners receive 2 tickets to the FOEM Legacy Gala.

Oral Abstract Competition

This annual competition takes place during the ACOEP Scientific Assembly and is open to anyone that has completed a research project and would like to present it as a PowerPoint presentation (multiple slides, not poster) summarizing their findings.

Research Paper Competition

Las Vegas, NV

This is FOEM’s most prestigious event. Participants submit their research papers for review by a panel of physician experts. The panel identifies the top 3 papers prior to conference, and the winning authors present their findings at the ACOEP Scientific Assembly annually.

• DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION/SUBMISSION OF PAPER: August 15
• DEADLINE FOR POWERPOINT: September 30
• FOEM will give up to $3500 annually for the best student/resident research papers. Typically the top
3 papers get $2000, $1000, and $500 respectively, but FOEM reserves the right to withhold funds if
quality work is not submitted. FOEM may also divide the money between 2 papers or give it to one
winner depending on the circumstance.
