ACOEP-RSO President and Director of Student Affairs Report

Welcome to the spring edition of The Fast Track! The ACOEP Resident-Student Organization (RSO) has had a busy winter planning for a busy spring!

First, Spring Seminar is right around the corner April 3-7, 2018 in San Diego, CA! The majority of RSO events will be Friday, April 6th. We will have Rapid Fire Student Lectures on topics ranging from common toxicology emergencies to ventilator management followed by EKG and ultrasound lectures, workshops, and competitions with prizes! The FOEM Case Study Poster Competition will be Wednesday, April 4th and don’t forget to check out the college lecture schedule as some of our favorite speakers including Drs Chris Hicks and Anand Swaminathan will be lecturing!

In addition, the RSO board has supported a resolution to change the name and mission of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Committee to the Resident Student Advisory Committee (RSAC). In light of the transition to a single accreditation system and other changes to our training path including the standardized video interview, we saw a need for a new process to address issues facing residents and students. This new committee will bring together other key members of the ACOEP including program directors, members of the CME committee, and members of the New Physicians in Practice (NPIP) committee to provide resources and support to our students and residents to enact plans to ameliorate these issues.

Next, we will be headed to the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) Saturday, April 21-24 in San Antonio, TX. We will be attending the All EM Resident Organizations and Students (AEROS) Meeting to discuss resolutions to critical issues affecting EM Residents today. In addition, we will be hosting a challenge at Chaos in the ED, an all-around skills competition put on by Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association (EMRA).

We are excited to be representing you at all these meetings and events! Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns! And, if you would like to get more involved, come to Scientific Assembly October 21-25, 2018 in Chicago, IL to attend our events, vote on resolutions, and run for a board or committee position!

Best,
